Marlene Lierow

Marlene J. Lierow passed away, on January 16, 2014. She was born on her parent’s (Floyd and Martha Rodgers) farm on November 27, 1933 near Oskaloosa, Iowa. Marlene married James D. Lierow on June 8, 1952 in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Jim and Marlene farmed in Oskaloosa before moving to Ottumwa, Iowa to manage a fuel business they purchased. They later moved to Des Moines in 1968 where Jim worked for the US Army and Marlene held secretarial positions with the United Methodist church and conference and later the Des Moines Public schools until her retirement in 1995.

Marlene is survived by her son James Jr. (Debra) Lierow of Cooperstown, NY; daughter Judy (Bruce) Scapecchi of Des Moines; son, Jeffrey D. Lierow of Des Moines; daughter-in-law Marcy Sherfey, Sherwood, OR; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Jerry D. Lierow and husband, Jim.

Funeral services will be held at 11a.m. Monday, January 20, 2014 at Fort Des Moines United Methodist Church, 6205 SW 9th Street followed by burial at Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service Monday at the church.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Fort Des Moines United Methodist Church.
