Joyce Mae Sabinash

Joyce Mae Sabinash, 64, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 16, 2014. A Celebration of Life service, honoring Joyce, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 16, 2014, at Hamilton's on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, IA. The family will greet friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.

Joyce was born in Valley City, North Dakota April 22, 1949, to Harold “Bud” and Mae Magnuson. She graduated from Valley City High School and began working at Mercy Hospital in Valley City, ND, where she began her surgical nursing career. Joyce retired in 2011 from her surgical nursing career at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, specializing on the ENT team.

Joyce had a gift of nurturing and taking care of you. Her warm heart always had a smile and her arms open for a hug. Joyce loved cooking and always fed you well. She enjoyed having her own herb garden, rose garden and reading. Joyce loved the outdoors and traveling with her husband David to Alaska and Hawaii. Her true passion was her family and friends. She treasured time spent with her grandchildren and hosting fondue parties during the holidays. Joyce had many other children that adopted her as their "other" grandma.

Joyce will be greatly missed by her husband, David of West Des Moines, IA; her son, Mike of West Fargo, ND; and daughter, Patti (Mike) Hood of Ankeny, IA. She was a wonderful grandma to her grandchildren, Steven, David and Kaitlyn. Joyce is also survived by her mother, Mae Magnuson of Sioux Falls, SD; her brothers, David (Janet) Magnuson of Devils Lake, ND, and Maynard (DonnaLee) Magnuson of Phoenix, AZ; as well as many other family members and friends that loved her. Joyce was preceded in death by her father, Harold Magnuson and grandson, Christopher Sabinash. “We are loved…”
