Carl Custer

Carl D. Custer, 58, passed away at his home Wednesday, January 15, 2014.

Carl was born June 10, 1955 in Des Moines to Jack and Karlene Custer. He was a lifelong resident of Des Moines. Carl graduated from Saydel High School in 1973. He had worked for RR Donnelly, Continental Trailways and most recently was a tire mechanic for Metropolitan Transit Authority until his retirement in 1992.

He enjoyed drawing, crossword puzzles, shooting pool and playing with his grandkids. Carl couldn’t go anywhere without running into someone he knew. No one was a stranger to him and he was a good friend to everybody.

Carl is survived by his loving wife, Rose; son, Sean Custer; step-son, Chad Rubenking; brother, Jack Custer; grandsons, Cody and Drew; nephew, Bob Rubenking; and a host of extended relatives and beloved friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Cathy Rubenking.

A memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. Monday, January 20, 2014 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service Monday at the funeral home.
