Frank Scovel, 89, passed away Monday, January 13, 2014 at the Rehab Center of Des Moines.
Frank was born December 20, 1924 in Des Moines, Iowa to Wallace and Beulah (Hastings) Scovel. He is survived by his children: Frank Scovel, Jr. (Debbie) of Monroe, IA, George Hendrickson (Janet) of Choctaw, OK, David Hendrickson (Margie) of Colfax, IA, JoAnn Millard (Steve), Debra Cornelison (Steve), Barbara McCuen (Jim) and Leatha Hendrickson, all of Des Moines, IA; brother, Raymond; fifteen grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren with two on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Mary Scovel; his second wife, Areta Scovel; and his siblings, John, Jack, Bernice, Elmer “Chub” and Irene.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 16, 2014 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Burial with military honors will follow the funeral at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 15, also at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa.

Sorry that I was not able to attend visitation or funeral due to other commitments. My memories were of Frank and Areta together. Thinking of all the family at this time.

Sis Barb Jo and Bud my heart goes out to you and all your family. Uncle Frank was a wonderful man and hero to all of us. I will never forget lunch at the Scovel's bread hard butter and sugar. I will always miss him.
