Max Hodges, 78, died Saturday, January 11, 2014 at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown from complications of Alzheimer’s. He was born January 31, 1935 in Martinstown, Missouri.

Max earned a BA from NE Missouri State University and served in the Navy during the Korean War. He owned Hodges Insurance Agency for many years on the east side of Des Moines. Max was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Newton and enjoyed gardening, traveling, and nature.

Max is survived by his wife of 27 years, Jean; their daughters, Brie and Emily Hodges; his children from a previous marriage, Gregg Hodges and Kristin Hodges Carlisle, granddaughter, Taylor Carlisle; sister, Loretta Dixon; and a host of other family and beloved friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Christopher and Icel Hodges; and brother, Gerald.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, January 16, 2014 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 1900 N. 4th Avenue E. in Newton, with burial to follow at Mitchellville Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW in Altoona.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Cancer Society.
