Service Details

Angels in heaven are celebrating with cake today, as Peggy “Peg” Taylor chose her birthday to return home. Peg was born January 10, 1943 and passed away at her home on January 10, 2014. She was the 4th born to a family of ten children to Thomas A. Cross and Josephine Briggle.

She is survived by her husband of 40 years, David L. Taylor. Dave and Peg shared a home in Avon Lake, IA where they raised four children, sons, Robert Armagost Jr. (LeAnn), Curtis Thompson (Carla) and Brian Thompson; a daughter, Teresa Thompson; three step-children, James Taylor (Cindy), Rod Taylor (Donna) and Melanie Kale; siblings, Helen Simpson, Thomas L. Cross Sr., Sue Taylor-Rodriguez, Jackie Martinsen, Vickie Sonnenberg and Pamela Davis; 32 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and countless nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Peg was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Daniel Thompson and Robert Armagost Sr.; three siblings, Darlene Peterson, George Cross and Thelma Jo Conn.

Peg was very active in the TOPS (Taking off pounds sensibly) organization and was a member of the local chapter #530 for nearly 30 years and held several offices such as leader, co/leader and secretary. She reached her goal weight and became a member of KOPS and maintained that status for an amazing 22 years. She prided herself on never missing a Monday meeting and always being there to motivate and support all of her fellow members.

Peg was an amazing woman with an incredible love of life. She was an avid collector of teddy bears and Elvis memorabilia making her especially easy to shop for.

She was truly the definition of the word “giving”. She never asked for much and will always be remembered for giving so much too so many. Peg touched countless lives along her journey and will forever hold a place in all of our hearts.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m., Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street in Des Moines. Services will be held, 11 a.m., Wednesday, January 15th at the funeral home with burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
