Elmer "Buss" Gravitt

Elmer “Buss” Gravitt, 83, was born October 10, 1930 in Des Moines, to Elmer and Pearl Gravitt, and raised by his grandparents, Bessie and Ben Phoenix. He passed away January 9, 2014 at Bright Kavanagh in Des Moines.

Elmer served in the United States Air Force until his honorable discharge. He was a lifelong resident of Des Moines. He graduated from Grandview College and retired from Firestone in 1994 after 31 years of loyal service. Elmer loved fishing, hunting and being outdoors. He also enjoyed football and baseball, but above all else, he cherished spending time with his family and taking care of his son.

Elmer is survived by his children, Stephen Gravitt, Sharon Gravitt, Sandra Falcon, and Stanford Gravitt; granddaughters, Samantha and Valerie; 6 great-grandsons and 1 great-granddaughter; sister, Catherine Gravitt-Elston, and a brother, Richard Gravitt. He was preceded in death by his wife, Delores (Choate) Gravitt and one brother.

Graveside services will be held at 12:30 p.m., Friday, January 31, 2014 at Iowa Veterans Cemetery.
