Helen Fankhauser

Helen M. Fankhauser, 91, formerly of Des Moines, died on Tuesday, August 7, 2007 at Westview Nursing Home in Leon. Funeral services will be held 12 p.m. Monday, August 13, 2007 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens Funeral Home, 121 NW 60th Avenue. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Helen was born December 10, 1915 to Earl and Effie Foster in Peru, Iowa. She owned and operated Kut & Kurl in Des Moines and attended Capitol City Baptist Church. Helen was a life long resident of Des Moines and moved to Leon in 1996 to be closer to her family.
Helen is survived by her daughter, Dixie (Joe) Cowling of Leon; 3 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren; sister, Lois Hitchcock of Maxwell; numerous nieces; nephews; and beloved friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin; one grandchild; three great-grandchildren; one brother; and one sister.
Visitation will be held 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
