Diane Oak Goode, 61, passed away Sunday, January 5, 2014 at HCI Care Services 56th of cancer.
Diane was born August 13, 1952 to Ralph and Darlene Oak. She graduated from Columbus Junction High School, earned her Bachelors degree at the University of Iowa and her Masters degree at the University of North Texas. Diane recently retired from Iowa Workforce Development after 38 years of service. She attended Fort Des Moines United Methodist Church. Diane enjoyed traveling, reading mysteries and spending time with her family.
Diane is survived by her husband of 35 years, Lisle Goode; sons, Matthew (Patricia Antonucci) Goode and Gregory (Amanda Dorff) Goode; twin sister, Denise Oak (Ralph) Wasik; her beloved dog, Daisy; and a host of extended family and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Animal Lifeline of Iowa.

Today January 5, 2014 a remarkable woman lost her battle with metastatic cancer.
Diane Goode wife of Lisle and mother of Matt and Greg,twin sister of Denise courageously fought her adversary for more than 4 years. Diane fought the good fight-- braving surgery,chemo and whatever her doctors told her to do or try. She continued to work all through her illness only retiring some 6 weeks ago. She was always positive, optimistic about her prognosis, reassuring her loved ones that she was O.K. , doing fine, and feeling good and for a while she was. Her cancer,however came back with a vengeance and though she had the determination and will to beat it -- that was not meant to be. Diane summoned all the strength and energy she had to come to her oldest son's wedding in Gainesville Florida just one month ago. None of us watching that tender moment when she danced with her son knew just how ill she was and how advanced the cancer had become. She prayed that she would have the strength to "enjoy" the wedding and it sure looked like she did. The pride she had for Matt radiated on her face. On December 10th she toured her son's first home ( a recent purchase) and as she sat in a rocker on the sun lit porch a smile played on her lips. She knew Matt was settled; married to a young woman who idolized him, he had a good job, which he loved. As an adjunct teacher at the University of Florida he was well liked by both his peers and students. Now he had this beautiful home.............and Greg her youngest,( he stood by her side , encouraging her and helping whenever she needed support ) he too had found a young woman who loved him dearly.
When our children find true love parents find peace and Diane was at peace.Her children would be O,K,........... Diane left Gainesville the next day Dec.11th ( just two short weeks before Christmas) to return home to Des Moines, Iowa. She wrote out her Christmas cards in between bouts of extreme fatigue and did a few other "Christmasy" things. Usually on Christmas morning ,she and Lisle drove two hours to Cedar Rapids to visit with her twin sister Denise and her family but this Christmas she was far too tired to make the trip. But she summoned up her energy once again and made the trip the following day. At some point that day she didn't feel well and so they took her to the hospital,expecting a quick fix and a return to her sister's. Thus began a downward spiral from hospital to a hospice wing in the hospital to a hospice facility back in her hometown of Des Moines. For 10 days she endured the dehumanizing effects terminal cancer wreaks on the human body. She bore it all with grace and finesse and showed her family and friends what real "class" is. Lisle you were there with her every day through this long ordeal, your love and support gave her the drive to continue fighting this dreadful disease and when she lost the battle you were there to give her one last caress..........Lisle,Matt & Greg,.she knew the men in her life were there with her to the end. Together you made her final weeks,days and hours happy and peaceful. She is proud to call you her family.
Our deepest sympathies to you and all the extended family. Thank you for sharing your loved one with us and enriching our lives too.
Today we lost one of the good ones-- a devoted wife , a loving mother,sister, aunt and faithful friend. Diane Goode ----- the world was a better place because of you. Your life added meaning to the lives of so many others. Rest in Peace dear friend, you certainly earned it. But know that you will be missed , your absence will leave a void in our hearts forever.

My condolences to Diane's family and friends. I came to know Diane through work and quickly learned of the passion she held for her family, her work and for improving the lives of young people. She made a difference and will be missed by many.

Dear Lisle - Diane's death was a shock, and so sad for all of us who were excited that she was going have more time with you and her family. She was a very classy lady, and to quote Jeff Nall, one who "accessorized well." My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

I always remember coming over as a kid to play with Matt & Greg. Diane was a gentle soul and very kind lady to be around. I was saddened to hear of her passing. I'm grateful for the memories, and my condolences to her family.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Diane was a wonderful person with a kind heart, a generous nature and a witty sense of humor. She kept our group of friends connected by organizing get togethers, remembering birthdays and always knowing where the best dining deals were. Diane will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. May memories of her bring you comfort during this sad time.
