Maeta J. White

Service Details

Maeta Jan (Johannsen) White was born June 10, 1956 in Albert Lea, Minnesota to Doran and Janet (Nelson) Johannsen. She was an avid reader and enjoyed antiques. Maeta had a passion for shoes. She had a huge collection and was lucky in that she had such tiny feet, none of her family could borrow her adorable shoes! Maeta enjoyed family time and especially family fishing trips. She loved her dogs; they were part of her family. Maeta liked hitting the slot machines at Prairie Meadows and had a spicy attitude that will always be remembered. She was fond of saying with a smile, “Someday you will learn to listen to Maeta.” Her memory will bring a smile to all those blessed to have known her for years to come. Sadly, Maeta passed away at Taylor House Hospice on January 1, 2014 at the age of 57.

Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, January 6, 2014 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. There will be a visitation from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, January 5, also at the funeral home.

Maeta is survived by her loving husband, Raymond “Dave” White; step-daughter, Krystal (Chris) Wright; step-son, Bryan (Tammy) White; grandchildren, Kinsey Mitchell and Jesse White; brother, Virgil Johannsen; and niece, Leah Gough (Johannsen). She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Tammie Johannsen.

Memorial contributions may be directed to UnityPoint Hospice Taylor House or Animal Rescue League of Iowa in loving memory of Maeta.
