Vera Cansdale

Vera Jean Cansdale, 85, passed away at her home at Wesley Acres on Monday, December 30, 2013.

Vera was born April 26, 1928, in Des Moines, to Arthur and Cleo (Furman) Ferger. She married William “Bill” Cansdale on June 20, 1947, in Des Moines, and together they owned and operated Southtown Tap for 25 years.

Vera is survived by her children, William H. “Skip” III (Roseann) and Mary Mendenhall-Core (Mark); grandchildren, Kristine Bennett (Bryan), Erin Sawhill (Jeff), and Brian Mendenhall; great grandchildren, Kayla Bennett and Bryan Bennett Jr.; sister, Mary Pastore; and sister-in-law, Geneva Gilbert.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, and daughter, Claudia Cansdale.

There will be a public visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, January 2, 2014, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Cremation will follow and burial will occur at Sunset Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Amanda the Panda or the American Cancer Society, Iowa Chapter.
