Johnita Clemons
December 24, 2013
Johnita Larie Clemons’ life began on September 19, 1979 and on the evening of December 24, 2013, her life came to an end. She was the daughter of Mary L. Broadus and John L. Clemons.
Johnita was born in Denver, Colorado. She was educated in the Mexico, Missouri school system. Johnita graduated from Mexico High School in 1998. Currently she was going to school part time to become a Human Services Development Worker. No face was unfamiliar when it came to Johnita. She would help people more than she would help herself. That’s what she loved to do, besides taking time out with her children, Mikkah and Parieon. She loved movie night with them, playing games, and dress-up with Mikkah and friends. She loved playing boogey man and watching Parieon play basketball. She loved her “sweets” and cooking up new dishes. Outside of doing her hair and especially her nails, these were her true hobbies. As a little girl, she played a lot with making her own paper dolls and pasting them on perfume bottles. She will truly be missed by all that knew her.
Johnita was a visitor of different churches in the community. She believed in “Lord Jesus Christ, our Savior!”
Johnita was an employee of the Holiday Inn Airport and Conference Center as a front desk clerk. Her work ethic was superb. She was also an employee of Burger King where she worked her way up to management.
Johnita was engaged to be married to her fiancé, Richard Ball. She was so excited about planning her big day.
She leaves to mourn - her daughter: Mikkah N. Lyke of Des Moines; her son: Parieon I. J. Davis of Des Moines; her siblings: Vickie Daniels, Larry Gatewood Sr., Bobby Miller, Michelle Washington-Knoxville, all of Des Moines, Joyce Majors of Detroit, MI, Denise Sigars (Prentice), Theodore Gatewood Jr., both of Denver, CO, Tracey Washington of Arizona and Tyrone Jones of Mexico, MO; great-uncle: George Broadus of Des Moines; uncle: James Broadus of Texarkana, AR; and aunt: Irene Rumley of Des Moines; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews, as well as a huge host of friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents: Mary L. Broadus and John L. Clemons; her grandparents: Josephine and Jessie Broadus; her daughter: Nautica T. Clemons; and her brothers: Craig Gatewood, Stacey Washington, Jerry Clemons and Kerry Clemons.
Services will be held Saturday, January 4, 2014 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. with funeral services following immediately at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Glendale Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Johnita.

Johnita was one amazing woman. She was so loveable, and not judgemental. She was someone that made me leave work with a smile, always. She put her kids first and loved them so much. She was crazy about her family and loved them all to so much. One thing she used to call me is Love Bug or BrittBritt. She was such a joy to work with and always took her work seriously but always had fun. I know i didn't work with her for long but it's like i known her for years! Her family is in my prayers and I think about them a lot, and I know they are hurting inside and out. Just know God wanted an angel for his Birthday and he sure got one. R.I.P Johnita, you will never be forgotten.

I worked with Nita. She was always a joy and pleasure to work with. In getting to know her over the years I found her to be a fun and caring person. She always went out of her way to make us laugh. She was also a good and caring mom. Her kids were the light of her life. My thoughts and prayers are with them and her family.

I worked in the same building as Johnita for about two years. I loved how I got to visit with her several nights a week. She always made me laugh and feel good. She always wanted to make sure I had a good night at work. She truly was a kind hearted person. She will be dearly missed.

I actually never had the pleasure of meeting Miss Johnita but we share a mutual friend. I appreciated her being a friend to Erika Lewis and giving her the amazing gift of time with the kids. That meant and means so much to her which in turns means a lot to me because it made my friend happy. Thank you Johnita and may you rest in peace. My sympathies go out to your family and who loved you.

The thought of knowing her life was taken away so abruptly deeply saddens me to the core. For 15yrs I have known and came to love Johnita Clemons. I believe what I admired the most was her strength to never give up and her smile that stayed bright even in the darkest of times. She was a magnificent woman, theres no denying that and she will be mourned and missed by all hearts she touch during her time on this earth. *Those we love remain with us for love itself lives on, and cherished memories never fade because a loved one's gone. Those we love can never be more than a thought apart, for as long as there is memory, they'll live on in the heart.-Mary Alice Ramish*
