Rachel Louise Johnson, 74, passed away at Lutheran Hospital on Tuesday, December 24, 2013.
Rachel was born July 13, 1939 in Redfield, Iowa to Marguerite and Ira Williamson. Rachel was a hard worker and was employed as the kitchen manager at Callanan Middle School in Des Moines until her retirement in 2011. She enjoyed going to Prairie Meadows and was a NASCAR and Dale Earnhardt Jr. fan. Rachel also enjoyed basketball and football and was a Hawkeye fan. She liked going shopping and watching soap operas and Pawn Stars. Her cat, Tebow, will miss her.
Rachel is lovingly remembered by her children, Kim Johnson, Melody Leimer (Scott) and Gale Johnson Jr.; granddaughter, Ashley Collins (Josh); brother, Mike Williamson; and best friend, Peggy Holmes.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Gale Johnson Sr.
A memorial service will be planned for a later date.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Animal Rescue League in Rachel’s name.

May Rachel's memory be a blessing for those who loved her. Rachel was kind and gentle, and always cared about the people around her - both students and coworkers. She will be missed by many.

So sorry to hear of Rachel's passing. I enjoyed working with her at Callanan. We talked many times about what we would do when we retired. She was a wonderful person and will be missed by many. Deepest sympathy to her friends and family.

I was saddened to read about Rachel's passing. I worked with her at Callanan for many years. She was a kind and caring person who put others before herself. After retirement we would see each other at the grocery store and would talk about how great it was to be retired.

Iam so sorry to hear about Granny.she was a very kind and loveable and funny woman she always liked shopping .The best times were at the State Fair . She will be missed dearly and will never be forgotten.Love you Granny.R.I.P.GRANNY

I am so sorry to hear of Rachel's passing. Rachel was the cook at the Theta house when I was a student at Drake in the early 1980's. She was a good cook and was loved by the girls in the house. She'd visit with us and give us advice when we had a problem.
