Frances M. Youngkin passed away peacefully with her daughters by her side on Monday, December 23, 2013 at the age of 86.
Frances is survived by her daughters, Linda and Barbara Youngkin; sister, Evelyn Jean Hawthorne; sisters-in-law, Dollie Watters and Wanda Miner; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dewey and Nellie Watters; husband, Elzy Youngkin; sisters, Viola Mendenhall, Edna Mason and Phyllis Weizork; and brothers, Charles, Vernon and Donald Watters.
Frances was born August 7, 1927 in Des Moines and was a lifelong resident of the area. She worked for Precision Sewing until her retirement. She enjoyed cooking and baking and was known for her wedding and birthday cakes and cookies. She was a member of Union Park Presbyterian Church, Camp Fire, and Stroke Club.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 28, 2013 at Union Park Presbyterian Church, 1307 Thompson Avenue, Des Moines. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, December 27 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. Burial will follow the funeral at Our Silent City Cemetery in Kellogg, Iowa.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Union Park Presbyterian Church or Camp Fire (Heart of the Hawkeye Council) 5615 Hickman Road, Des Moines, 50310.

Your Mother was a precious jewel. I will always remember the delicious cookies she made for Mom's 80th birthday, the gingerbread houses we made for the church youth group, and the many times she was in the kitchen at the church serving food for the Spring and Fall Mariner dinners. She is home now and no longer in pain. You will be in our prayers during this time.

Francis was a great friend, neighbor and consummate baker. She was always ready to give you a smile and anything else you needed. My favorite memory of her is the one of a one of a kind wedding cake she baked for us. Linda and Barb I know you have many great memories of your Mom. Those memories are what will get you through the coming months

Linda and Barb, I am sorry for the loss of your mom. I will never forget sitting in her kitchen watching her cook or decorate cakes and spending hours in her basement going through boxes of fabric when I needed to make something for Home Ec class. And after I got married Scott and we would stop in to sit at the kitchen table and talk to both her and Elzy. She was the best, you couldn't find a nicer woman. I'll never forget her. And I know both my parents felt the same way. We all loved her.
