Alvin D. “Skip” Bachman Jr., 66, passed away at home on December 21, 2013. He was born March 24, 1947 in Knoxville to Gloria and Alvin D. Bachman Sr. After graduating, he proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1966-1968. Skip owned several restaurants over the years and was an active member in many groups, including the Royal Order of Jesters, Grand Lodge of Iowa, A.F. & A.M., Shriners International, Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, S.J., American Legion Post 663, VFW Post 8879, United States Marine Corps 1st Recon Battalion Association, and the Marine Corps Association.
Skip is survived by his wife, Lori; mother, Gloria Nichols; sisters, Terri Bachman and Jocelyn (Harlan) Van Wyk; children, John Bachman and Alissa (Shannon) Clark; step-children, Bruce (Kaylee) Huckfeldt and Brian Huckfeldt; grandchildren, Rief, Callan, Declan, Vienna, and Kieran.
He was preceded in death by his father, Alvin D. Bachman Sr. and his step-father, Harold Nichols.
A Celebration of Life will be held in January.

Dearest Bachman Family, I just learned of Skip's death today (7/8/14) and wanted to still write to you and give my condolences. My Mother was Lucille Bachman Freel who was born in Pleasantville, IA but lived in Des Moines from age 17 on. Skip was her cousin and she had told me what a successful person he was. I left Des Moines in 1974 to go to college and have been away until now. I have come full circle and back to Des Moines where life began. The Bachman family, no matter which branch of it, was known to be good, hard working people. I would enjoy meeting any of Skip's kids someday and wish only life's best to each and every one of you. God bless you all.

I first met Skip when he was 12. Ended up marrying his cousin. Skip was a remarkable guy. Always friendly, courtious and eager to help. His personality is ever present in the sucessful businesses he operated. My condolences to his family and close friends, He will surely be remembered and missed.

I am so very sorry for your loss. Men like Skip are a rarity in our world today. His family, friends, and this city have suffered a great loss.

To Jo and family--So sorry for your loss. He was still so young. It brings back a lot of memories of us going to Lincoln and AIB, Jo! Hope all your family is doing well. My friends and I still go to Skips a lot!
