Marilu Mattiussi passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 19, 2013 at Urbandale Health Care. Marilu was born on November 25, 1926 in Fraser, Iowa to Geneva (Johnson) and Thomas Ingalls.
Marilu graduated from the University of Northern Iowa. She enjoyed her lifelong career as a teacher. Marilu was a proud “Pillar of the Parish” at St. Anthony Catholic Church. She was also a member of Bellizzi MacRae, American Legion Auxiliary, the Altar & Rosary Society and the Croation Center. She was an avid Polka dancer, loved to play Bingo, baking pies and cookies and especially loved spending time with her family.
Marilu is survived by her children, Janine, Phillip (Karen), David (Danielle) and Kathy (Richard) Pinneke; grandchildren, Scott Pinneke, Meagan Mattiussi-Fouche, Douglas McQueen, Teresa McQueen and Sarah Pinneke; great-grandchildren, Brendan Pinneke and Kire Standefer; and other loving family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Felix and grandson, Eric Pinneke.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 15 Indianola Road. Burial will follow mass at Sunset Memorial Garden Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, December 23 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street, with a Rosary to begin at 7:00 p.m.

My heart goes out to you at this time of loss. I taught with Marilu for 10 years at St. Anthony's and was always inspired by her. She was very kind and very professional. I was the music teacher, so Marilu would bring her class to the music room, and, when doing that, and, at many other times, I could tell her third grade students loved and respected her. She was kind enough to attend my wedding, as well, and was a good friend. I will remember her always as one of the nicest teaching colleagues I ever had.

To the family of Marilu Mattiussi:
I was so sorry to learn of the death of your mother, especially since it came so close to Christmas. It is a major loss to lose your mother even as an adult.
Your mom was one of my favorite teachers when I attended St. Anthony's School. Kathy was a classmate of mine all through elementary school and high school. Your mom was a friend of my mom's, Charlotte Palmer. I remember how your mom and dad taught my parents how to Polka when they gave lessons at the American Legion. I remember my dad always had to count "1,2,3" so he could keep in time w/ the music!
May the love of your family, friends and God help you through this difficult period while you grieve. May knowing your mom is at peace in Heaven w/ God and your dad be of some comfort to you. May your loving memories also bring you comfort. I pray that in time God helps to heal the void and pain you feel now.

God bless you Mrs, Mattiussi. May your loving family find peace and many happy memories to share with one another. Mrs. Mattiussi was a lovely woman and teacher and I thank her for all she did for us children at SAS.

Mrs. Mattiussi was my third grade teacher at St. Anthony's in 1973. She was a kind, and caring individual, and an excellent teacher. She had the ability to make a child want to learn and be curious about the world around them. Her impact on me was great, I am a teacher and learned how to treat my students by her example. She touched many lives in such a positive way. My deepest sympathy to her family.
