William Smith, 53, passed away Wednesday, December 18, 2013. He was born March 10, 1960 to John and Joyce Smith in Augsburg, Germany.
William graduated from Tech High in 1978 he was very dedicated to his work. He volunteered his time reading to local school children. William especially enjoyed being outdoors playing softball, fishing, and golfing.
He was last employed for Unity Point Health Methodist as a Culinary Supervisor.
He is survived by his daughter, Shauna (George) Remele-Adair of Denver, Colorado; sister, Diana (Phil) Smith/Mass of Cedar Falls, Iowa and Jessie Johnson of Des Moines, Iowa; stepmother, Charlene Smith of Des Moines, Iowa; uncle, Donald Smith of Des Moines, Iowa; cousin, Ainsley Smith of Des Moines, Iowa.
William was preceded in death by his loving companion, Betty Taylor of Des Moines, Iowa; mother, Joyce Smith of Des Moines, Iowa; father, John Smith of Des Moines, Iowa.
Friends may visit with family from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 28, 2013 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street in Des Moines.
Funeral Services will be held, 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 28, 2013. Urn burial will take place 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 2, 2014 at Glendale Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made towards American Heart Association of Iowa in loving memory of William.

Bill was my Dad and he will be greatly missed. I just want to thank everyone for their kind words and thoughtfulness in this time. I wish I could write an individual thank you note to each and every one of you for your gifts and monetary contributions, but unfortunately I don't have everyone's contact information. We will greatly miss "Chef Bill" here at Iowa Methodist. I was deeply saddened to hear about his passing. He was always such a friendly person and willing to help me with anything I needed.
