Lawrence F. Wheeler

Lawrence F. Wheeler, 83, passed away peacefully at Fountain West in West Des Moines.

Lawrence was born August 8, 1930 to James and Marjorie Wheeler. He was a graduate of Roosevelt High School and a lifelong resident of Des Moines. Lawrence had a 30 year career in advertising at the Des Moines Register and Tribune. He served 20 years in the National Guard/Reserves and retired as a Captain. Lawrence was an avid golfer, Waveland Golf Course was his favorite. He will be lovingly remembered as a storyteller and a lover of music.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jim; granddaughter, Abbey Wion; and wife, Elsie Wheeler. He is survived by his children, Chris Wheeler Wion (Charlie), Brian Wheeler (Suzie), Neil Brankis (Collette) and Dorn Brankis; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; former wife and mother of his children, Cindy Wheeler; and special companion, Louise Stout.

There will be a visitation Sunday, December 22, 2013 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 23 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1627 Grand Avenue, West Des Moines. Interment will follow the Mass at the Masonic Cemetery in Des Moines.
