Leslie “Les” Norman, 77, passed away Saturday, December 14, 2013 at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines. Les is survived by his wife, Yvonne; daughters, Sheryl (William) Norman-Ryan and Deborah Babb; step-children, Michael (Kim) Schager and Matthew (Heather) Schager; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Lyle (Judi) Norman; nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Helen Norman; step-son, Mark Schager and infant great-granddaughter, Anjolique Norman.
Les was born May 8, 1936 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Yvonne and Les were childhood sweethearts who reconnected after many years. They were married on September 16, 1988. Les was a member of the Home Masonic Lodge and the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine. He was President of the International Pressman’s Union Local 11. Les worked as a pressman for the Des Moines Register for over 40 years.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street in Des Moines with burial to follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Pleasant Hill. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening, also at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa in Les’ memory.

I will miss Les as not only a neighbor but as a good friend. I was blessed to have such great neighbors on John Patterson Road. I will always cherish memories of going to the Yankee Doodle Pops celebrating the 4th of July along with our little picnics that we took while enjoying the sights and sounds with Les and Yvonne. Many great memories will be held of this very kind man. Love to all of his family at this very difficult time.
