Dorothy M. Young

Dorothy M. Young, 88, passed away peacefully with her family at her side Friday, December 13, 2013, due to complications of Alzheimer’s. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 17, 2013, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street in Des Moines, with burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home.

Dorothy was born December 2, 1925, to Frankie (Stingley) and Jesse Noble in St. Joseph, MO. She was raised in Des Moines and lived here most of her life. Dorothy was a very loving mother to her four children, and also a very loving Nana to her grandchildren. Dorothy retired from the dietary department at Iowa Lutheran Hospital. She was devoted to her Jehovah’s Witness faith and spent many hours reading her Bible.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; son, Bobby Newkirk; granddaughter, Anissa Newkirk; her three brothers: Bill, Jack, and Lawrence Noble; and sister Alice Bird. She is survived by sons: Jim (Kay) Newkirk, and Stephen (Brenda) Newkirk; and daughter, Karen Hernandez; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
