Sarah L. "Sally" Sellers

Sally Sellers, 93, passed away on Friday, December 13, 2013, at Valley View Village in Des Moines. She was born on April 7, 1920, in Macon, Georgia, to Charles and Harriet (Sullivan) Hurley.

Sally was a nurse’s aid at Mercy Hospital until her retirement in 1979, and loved to travel.

She is survived by her loving husband of 24 years, Robert W. Sellers; children, Bert D. Smith, Nancy L. Saunders, Charles H. Smith, Leon K. Smith, Cheryl A. Cartwright, Sally Jo Johnson, Mary L. Umbaugh, Deborah S. Fuerman, and Steven O. Dodge; and many, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her youngest son, Larry Lynn Smith; grandson, John Cartwright; husbands, Bert D. Smith and Olin L. Dodge; daughter-in-law, Barbara Smith; two sisters; one brother; and her parents.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m.. Tuesday, December 17, 2013. at Staves United Methodist Church, 2747 East Madison Avenue, Des Moines, with burial to follow at Glendale Cemetery. Family will greet friends one hour prior to services at the church.
