Larry Lee Jentsch, 73, of Granger, Iowa, died Friday, December 13, 2013.

He was born to the late Oliver and Agnes Jentsch, July 23, 1940 in Carroll at St Anthony’s Hospital.

Larry attended Manning and Malvern High School. He married Sigrid May Anderson on October 8, 1961. They made their home where ever Larry’s job took him. Larry worked for the USDA, which gave him the opportunity to move around and see the country.

He took Sigrid out to California where he started working for the USDA and then switched to work for Standard Oil Company. While living in California, Larry and Sigrid had a son named John. An opportunity to work for the government again, allowed them to make the trek from California back to Iowa.

Larry’s job took them to Malvern, IA, York, NE, Fremont, NE, Wakefield, NE, Marshall, MN, Humboldt, IA, Robinson, Ill, and finally Sioux Center, IA. While being stationed in Fremont, Nebraska, Larry and Sigrid had another son named Richard.

Larry retired from the USDA in 2000, after 35 years. Larry and Sigrid decided to move to Grimes in 2001.

In 2005, Larry and Sigrid moved to the country by Granger. There they enjoyed the outdoors by working in the yard, planting flower gardens and planting a vegetable garden.

Larry was a Mason since, 1968. He enjoyed people and life – he loved fishing, camping, car racing and gardening. Larry always made everyone feel right at home and comfortable.

He is survived by his wife Sigrid; 2 children: John Jentsch of Granger, IA; Richard and his wife Michelle Jentsch of Zumbrota, MN; 3 grandchildren; Amber, Inga and Austin; and his sister, Mary Jentsch of Omaha, NE.

Services will be held on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines.
