Earl Anthony Pottebaum, 82, was born May 8, 1931 in Lidderdale, Iowa, the son of John and Coletta (Timmerman) Pottebaum. He passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at Mitchell Village Care Center.
Earl was raised in Carroll, Iowa until he was drafted in to the Army to serve in the Korean War. He retired from MTA after 20 years of service.
Earl is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Caroline Pottebaum; children, Theresa (Rich), Mary Jo (Darrin) and Anthony (Rowena); grandchildren, Josh, Ben and Andrew; four brothers; one sister; other loving relatives and many special friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Thomas; two brothers and one sister.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 13, 2013 at Ss. John and Paul Catholic Church, 1401 1st Ave. S in Altoona with burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery at 1 p.m. Visitation will be at the church from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday prior to funeral mass.

I was sorry to read in the paper that Earl died. We are just never prepared for the loss of one we love so much. My prayers are that you will get the graces you need to get through this tough time. I am thinking of you all.

I remember Earl well. Really nice, quiet guy. We bowled on the same MTA team; and as I recall, he was a pretty good bowler! Those were fun times.
I occasionally join the gang at the Old Country Buffet and always hoped to see Earl there, but never did. So sorry for your loss.
