Robert “Bob” Derrell Brown, 77, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family Thursday, August 2, 2007 after a long, courageous battle with emphysema. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, August 6, 2007 at Lutheran Church of the Cross, 1701 8th St. in Altoona, with burial to follow at the Mitchellville Cemetery.
Bob was born April 12, 1930 in Jesup, Iowa, the son of Elza and Mabel (Nesfield) Brown. He retired from the Southeast Polk School District after dedicating over thirty years of teaching and coaching many children. Bob was an Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict and a charter member of Lutheran Church of the Cross.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Jane; sons, David (Rosemary) Brown of Altoona, James (Debra) Brown of Clive and Paul (Laura) Brown of Altoona; 6 grandchildren, Ayra, Melissa, Joey, Kindra, Christina, and Katie and 6 great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Dakota, Christian, Clarity, Makale, and Hannah. He was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Brown.
The family will greet friends from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, August 5, 2007 at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Lutheran Church of the Cross or Mercy Hospice in Johnston in loving memory of Bob.
