Ernest Wagner

Ernest Wagner, 95, passed away on December 9, 2013 at Sunrise Senior Living in Minnetoka, MN. He was preceded in death by his sweetheart Virginia and his son Bob, parents Ernest and Lizzy Wagner, brother Charles, and sisters Dorothy, Annabelle, Thelma, Helen and Lillian. Ernest is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Glen Jensen of Chanhassen, Minnesota; grandchildren Jessica Jensen of Apple Valley, Minnesota, and Nick Jensen of Minnetonka, Minnesota, as well as his sister, Josephine Page of Oklahoma. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 13, 2013 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines with visitation for an hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m.

Ernest attended Lincoln High School and worked 28 years for Iowa Pack and 15 years for the United Postal Service. He met the love of his life, Virginia in 1939, and married her November 15, 1941. Their love affair continued for the next 65 years. Together they built and lovingly cared for their home, helped the elderly in their neighborhood, hosted annual family picnics, and provided a loving support system for many of their nieces and nephews. They were active members of Chesterfield Christian Church, and both helped prepare meals at the Chesterfield Dining Hall at the Iowa State Fairgrounds for many years. For the past 11 years, Ernest was a member of Pleasant Hill Free Church.
