Patricia Mae Garwood, 63, passed away Saturday, December 7, 2013 at UnityPoint Health Taylor House.
Patti was born November 15, 1950 in Des Moines, Iowa to Ellsworth “Ray” and Esther Niffenegger. She graduated from North High School in 1968. Patti retired from the Intelligence Division of the State Division of Criminal Investigation as a criminal analyst.
Patti is survived by her husband of 43 years, James; mother, Esther Niffenegger; son, Jeffery; grandsons, Justin and Ryan; sister, Lila Kurth; and brother, Jerry Niffenegger. She was preceded in death by her father, Ellsworth.
A celebration of life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 12, 2013 at Bloomfield United Methodist Church, 5930 Indianola Ave, Des Moines.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Susan G. Komen of Iowa or Bloomfield United Methodist Church.

What a Lady! I met Pattie for the First time in 1984 during LEIN School and I am honored to have known her and worked with her over all these years. She was a true Professional. My Thoughts and prayers go out to the whole Garwood Family.

What a blessing it was to have Pattie on this journey with us. I first met Pattie when I was County Attorney. Throughout the years Pattie was always there to help and to do what, at times, seemed like the impossible - always with a smile on her face.
Her courage while battling cancer was truly admirable. Pattie showed us how to live fully. Pattie's family is in our thoughts and prayers.

I wish to extend to Pattie's family my heartfelt condolences. I had the pleasure of working with my "Peppermint Pattie," since the 90's via the MCIO, an organization we were both doing analytical work for. She was among the best. A lovely, friendly, hard working and very courageous lady. I shall miss her as many others will do and remember her fondly as a dear friend whose path I was fortunate enough to cross.

We met Patty, thru Mike Johnson, my brother. She was a very sweet lady & I know a highly valued 'partner in the Intelligence field'.

Pattie was a true asset to the Intelligence field, but more importantly she was a kind, helpful, and good natured woman who always had a smile on her face. She was a strong and determined fighter, especially during her first round of cancer. Because of that, she was able to spend another 20 years with us. Rest in Peace Pattie.
