Beverly Phillips

Beverly Phillips, 65, passed away on Sunday, December 8, 2013. Services will be held at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines; family will greet friends on Thursday, December 12, 2013 from 5 to 8 p.m. and the funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. on Friday, December 13. Beverly will be laid to rest at Grant Memorial Cemetery in Marion, IN on Sunday, December 15.

Beverly was born in Indianapolis, IN on May 7, 1948 to Edna (Hogel) and Russel Hummel. She graduated from Marion High School and Ball State University. She married George Phillips on June 8, 1968, and worked as a librarian before becoming a full-time mom. A devoted wife and mother, Beverly never missed a swim meet, theatre performance, t-ball/baseball game, recital, soccer game or school event. She delighted in raising her two sons, and discovered new joys when she became a grandmother.

Beverly touched many lives with her kindness and compassion, and was an avid animal lover. Her kind heart worked in many ways, whether it was giving a thoughtful gift or a handwritten note, playing with her grandchildren, nursing a stray animal back to health or donating to charity. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed being with her extended bridge family friends. She also enjoyed her flower and butterfly gardening, traveling and reading.

Beverly is survived by her husband of 45 years, George Phillips; sons, Brent (Irene) Phillips and Jeff (Jessica) Phillips; grandchildren, Brayden, Delaney and Evelyn. She was preceded in death by her parents.
