Charles Dewayne Hamilton, 78, passed away Monday, December 2, 2013.
Charles was born February 24, 1935 north of Cainsville, Missouri to Arthur and Kathleen Hamilton. He enjoyed anything outdoors. He loved fishing, gardening and John Deere tractors. Charles was primarily a mechanic, but last worked for HyVee as Receiving Manager before retiring.
Charles is survived by his wife, Mary; children, Linda “Suzie” (Danny) King, Joyce (Fred) Johnson, Bev (Jim) Moore, Laurie (Mike) Otto, Gary (Becky) Hamilton and Michael (Stefanie) Hamilton; seventeen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and brother, Keith (Sharon) Hamilton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son, Phillip Dewayne, and brother, Dale Hamilton.
Services will be held at 9:00 a.m. Thursday, December 5, 2013, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Charles will be laid to rest Friday at 12:00 p.m., at Miller Cemetery in Missouri.

I feel like one of the luckiest people on Earth to have had you as my Grandpa. I was privileged to have you in my life. You are so kind and loving. You made everyone feel so special. I will always treasure each moment and memory I shared with you. I am relieved that you are not in pain and can rest in peace. Heaven is Lucky to have you! Grandpa,
Though you've only been gone one day, I miss you so much already. We have so many special memories together. You are the strongest person I have ever known. You fought everyday no matter how you felt, you always wore a smile. I am glad I got to hold your hand everyday, cry together, share our orneriness together, gang up grandma together and most of all, laugh together. I am proud to call you my grandpa. You will never have to be in pain again or suffer another day. I must say that no matter hard it is for me right now, I know you are in a place where you can finally rest. Your fight has made me a stronger person. I promised you that I would continue to give Grandma a hard time, and you bet I will keep that promise! Even though you are gone, your spirit lives on. I love you so much Grandpa! I know you are resting peacefully now and looking over us. You fought a good fight! I never knew how strong you were before you came down sick. You inspire me to keep moving forward and go after all that is worth fighting for in life, and to cherish the time that we have together. I have many fond memories of time we've spent together.
