Conner Joseph Mason
December 01, 2013
Conner Mason, a child of Eric and Jackie Mason, passed away on Sunday December 1, 2013. He leaves behind his immediate family including twin brother and sister, Avery and Allie.
During his short life here on earth with us, Conner accomplished many things. His greatest accomplishment, we would all agree with, was proving the doctors wrong when they told us he had one year to live after being diagnosed with a stage 4 brain tumor. Living a very normal life for the next three years, Conner had the chance to skydive, visit a professional hockey team’s locker room, become an accomplished ‘wake surfer’ at the lake, work at Adventureland and most importantly sharing his faith with all he came in contact with. I liken Conner to a ‘quiet witness’, sharing his faith everyday in ways people didn’t even realize he was doing such.
As a young man diagnosed with cancer, Conner attended one of his favorite camps each summer- The Oncology Camp sponsored by Children’s Cancer Connection. It was at this camp that he was able to completely lose himself in normality…a place where no one talked about Cancer. Normal was how he wanted to be treated by all that knew him…he was always very quick to shift the conversation from, “How are you feeling Conner “ to ask how the person asking the question was feeling. It was very rarely about Conner…
It is after Conner was on his way to heaven that I realized the impression he left on each and every person he touched. I have shared many letters via Caring Bridge, but continue to be astounded by what he truly did. As a friend and parent of Conner I couldn’t be more proud of what he accomplished during his time on earth.
We all have our own Conner stories; some funny and some bringing tears to our eyes. The stories will continue for years to come. I encourage you to cherish those stories and remember all the good times you had with Conner. We all know how Conner is being remembered after his time on earth…how would you be remembered?
We are all here on earth for a specific plan/reason. Some accomplish this sooner than others. Conner must have accomplished his plan quickly as the Lord decided his time here on earth was coming to an end.
Thanks to everyone that had a part to play in shaping this young man’s life. The job starts and finishes at home and in between it is shaped by the teachers and friends we have…Conner had outstanding friends and teachers in his life.

Your son was a quiet, gentle giant that melted everyones heart when they were in his presence. That little grin and you (parents and family) wrote about him as the world saw him; even the brief time we knew him and you. He was inspiring and taught everyone lessons of life. Our hearts and prayers are with your family. Laurie and the BIC staff

Eric, we have not kept in contact since you moved on from Honeywell and Balluff, but Debi and I never stopped thinking about Connor. Our thoughts and prayers go out to your family in this time of sorrow. Though we never had the opportunity of meeting Connor, it was obvious he made his parents very proud.
My deepest sympathy to you Eric.

Eric,
My deepest sympathy to you and your family. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I have included this beautiful poem about God's Lent Child..It has brought my family peace at times like this........................................
God's Lent Child
"I'll lend you for a little while
A child of mine," God said--
"For you to love the while she lives,
And mourn for when she's dead.
It may be one or two years
Or forty two or three;
But will you, till I call her back,
Take care of her for me?
She'll bring her charms to gladden you
And--(Should her stay be brief)-
You'll have her lovely memories
As a solace for your grief.
I cannot promise she will stay,
Since ALL from earth return;
But the lessons taught below
I want this child to learn.
I've looked the whole world over
In search for teachers true;
And from the things that crowd
Life's lane-- I have chosen you.
Will you give her all your love?
Nor think the labor vain?
Nor hate me when I come to take
This lent child back again?"
I fancied that I heard them say
"Dear Lord, Thy will be done.
For joys Thy child will bring
The risk of grief we'll run.
We will shelter her with tenderness,
We'll love her while we may--
And for the happiness we've known
Forever grateful stay.
But should Thy angels call for her
Much sooner than we've planned,
We'll brave the grief that comes
And try to understand."
