Service Details
Irvin James Knutzon, 93, passed away November 29, 2013 in West Des Moines, Iowa. A graveside burial service will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. in Norway Lake Cemetery in Thor, Iowa.
Irvin was born February 4, 1920 to George and Carla Knutzon in Thor, Iowa. He married Ellamarye Roepke on June 8, 1947. Ellamarye preceded him in death on August 8, 2013. Irvin graduated from Cornell College and received his masters from Columbia University. He was a Certified Public Accountant and remained active in his profession until just a few years ago. He was a World War II veteran and was among the brave men who landed on Omaha Beach.
He is survived by sons, James (Diane) of Colorado, Kurt (Cristina) of Georgia, and Randy (Debbie) of California; seven grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Jim, Kurt, & Randy, I am very sorry for the lose of your Father & Mother as I have fond memories of visiting them when we were in Des Moines and growing up with your family when we were young. They were always close to my parents especially my Mother over the years and I know she misses them deeply. May Happy thoughts be with you when you think of them and what great parents they where! I knew both of your folks since the 80's. I worked down the hall from them in the UFS building. Irvin set up the books for our business and always did the end of year reports. I will miss going out to eat fish with them. Also the occasional lunch with Elly.
There were no finer people and good friends than Irv and Elly.
I think it was a blessing that they left so close to each other, just as in life.

Barb phoned with the news of Irvin's death. My sympathies are with you. Losing both parents in such a short time must be difficult. I had hoped to see Irvin one more time, but guess it was not to be.
I am in FL , so will not be able to attend the burial- much as I would like to. I sent a memorial to the Lymphoma & Leukemia society again. I hope that was okay.
Thinking of you all & so glad we could get together for a while last summer.

Our family is so sorry to hear of the loss of your Dad and your Mom. It's been many years since we talked with your parents but we would occasionally see your mom sweeping out the garage or your dad watering the yard.
