Service Details

Marlin Max Stillinger passed away Friday, November 29, 2013, at the age of 80.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 4, 2013, at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW, Altoona. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 5, 2013 at Altoona Christian Church, 2890 1st Street, Altoona. Burial will be at Iowa Veterans Cemetery at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, following the service.

Max was born December 14, 1932, to Ivan and Ethel Stillinger in Brooks, Iowa. He graduated from Corning High School in 1950. Max enlisted in the Air Force shortly after graduation and actively served in Korea as a radar operator. He was honorably discharged in 1955 at which time he moved to Des Moines to attend AIB. He graduated from AIB in 1957.

Max spent most of his professional career working at Allied Insurance Company. He began in the Accounting Department and worked his way up to become Vice President. He completed his career with Allied serving as President of Midwest Printing Services, which was an Allied Group Systems Company.

After retiring, Max spent many years volunteering with the Iowa Attorney General's Office working as an investigator in the Consumer Protection Division. He was honored by the State of Iowa with a Governor's Volunteer Award.

Max was involved with the Altoona Lion's Club and he was a longtime member of the Altoona Christian Church. He was an avid Iowa State Cyclone fan, attending all home football and basketball games for many years. He also enjoyed traveling, golfing and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He and his wife, Madge, spent several winters in Mission, Texas and were proud to be called "Winter Texans".

Max is survived by his wife, Madge, his son, David (JoAnn) Fallis, his daughter Julie Tollefson, his sister, June (Glen) Mitchell, seven grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Max was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Debra Glover.

The family would like to express gratitude to all of the caregivers who assisted Max in his final days. He spoke very highly of Doctor Westburg, the staff at John Stoddard Cancer Center and all of "The Girls" at Parkridge Specialty Care and Care Initiatives Hospice.

It is suggested that memorial contributions be directed to Altoona Christian Church in honor of Max.
