James “Jim” Frangos, 76, passed away Friday, November 29, 2013, at UnityPoint Health Des Moines Methodist.

Jim was born March 2, 1937, in Des Moines, to Peter and Mary (Kaloides) Frangos. He served in the Iowa National Guard. Jim owned and operated Jim’s Coney Island for 42 years. In 2002 he retired, passing the business on to his children. He loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting and golfing. Jim was a member of the Izaak Walton League, St. George Greek Orthodox Church and AHEPA. He served on the board for the Beach Lake Association.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Helen; sons, Pete (Tracey) Frangos and Eric (Tonya) Frangos; daughter, Kris Judge; granddaughters, Jacey Frangos and Thea Frangos; brother, John Frangos; sister, Athena Kautz; and a host of extended family and beloved friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, December 5, 2013, at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 1110 35th Street followed by burial at Glendale Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., with the Trisagion Service at 7 p.m. Wednesday, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 9th Street.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Church or the American Cancer Association.

Jim will be remembered for his dynamic personality, his cheerful spirit, his sense of humor and his love for people. He will be greatly missed by many.
