C. E. "Pete" Johnson

C.E. “Pete” Johnson, 70, passed away with his family nearby on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 after a brief heart ailment. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, November 30, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1026 N. 8th Ave. in Winterset, IA at 10:00 a.m. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, November 29 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines.

Pete was born on May 24, 1943 in Osceola, IA to Juanita (McBee) and Warren Johnson. He graduated from Valley High School in 1961. Pete retired from the West Des Moines Police Department as a Sergeant in 1998 after 28 years of service. He married Vicki Reese in 1999 and they enjoyed spending time on their farm in Madison County. Pete enjoyed sports, was a devoted fan to the Chicago Bears and Cubs; and was a member of the Iowa State Police Association. But he loved most, cooking for his family and friends, gardening, fishing and time on the farm.

He is survived by his wife, Vicki; his mother, Juanita Johnson-Nusbaum; his children, Sam Johnson, Charlie (Cindy) Johnson, Anne (Trevor) Catron, Jake Johnson, Sara Johnson, Maggie (Erik) Levasseur, Bernard Johnson, Ernie (Sara) Johnson, and Luke (Carolyn) Johnson; 17 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; several cousins; 5 nephews; and 1 niece. Pete was preceded in death by his infant son, Jefferson; and his father, Warren Johnson.
