Lewis Clarkson, age 94, went home to be with his Savior on November 23, 2013. Lew was born May 13, 1919, in Buxton, Iowa in Monroe County. His family moved to Hocking and later to Des Moines where he graduated from East High School. Lew served in the Army during World War II, earning the Purple Heart. Following the war, he began his real estate career, operating Lew Clarkson Real Estate Service for 30 years. Lew was a lifelong member of Creekside Church (formerly Cornerstone Community Church), where he served in various leadership capacities. He gave much time and resources to Christian activities. His passion was to help young people, and he supported several camps for kids. He also served on the Board of Trustees of Emmaus Bible College for 20 years.
He was a long- time resident of Johnston, Iowa, where he helped in the chartering process and played a major role in bringing Little League baseball to Johnston. He was a faithful booster of Johnston Schools.
Lew was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret, to whom he was married for 63 years. He is survived by five sons; Rodney (Carole) of Ankeny, Richard (Ann Marie) of Bristol, RI, Randall (Kathy) of Johnston, Rollie (Debbie) of Johnston, and Ronald (Ann) of Colorado Springs, CO. He has 16 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.

I am so sorry to hear of Lew's passing. I loved nothing more than to sit down and talk to him while he enjoyed the chocolate malts that we both loved. He was there for me when my Grandfather passed and really became very important to me and my family. The past few months we were moving and let too much time pass between visits. I called to see him and heard that he passed. My heart breaks for you, his family as I can imagine the sense of loss that you must be feeling. He was a GREAT man and I was so lucky to know him and call him my friend. He made me laugh and inspired me. I enjoyed car rides with him and walks (well me walking and him going faster than I could in his wheelchair)! I wish I could have been there more for him in his last couple of months and I regret it. I just hope he is at peace with the woman he loved more than anything. He was so proud of his family and he was an amazing man. He knew that we didn't have a family and really made us feel like in knowing him, we did. Once again, I was blessed to know and love him!!!!

Rod, Rick, Randy, Rollie, & Ron, and their wives and extended family. We are so happy for Lew, but know it is still difficult for all of you to lose your Dad & Grandfather. Just remember all the happy times you had with him as we are remembering them also. We had some really great times with Lew in the Shens since we joined Cornerstone in 2003. Lew has been a real friend and brother in Christ to us. I first met Lew in 1946, in Nebraska, when he was traveling with the Gospel Messengers. We know he is once again reunited with Margaret, his help meet for 63 years here on earth! And best of all with his Lord and Saviour, who he served faithfully all his life, and talked about so much. I am so glad I had a chance to visit with him at Legacy Pointe before we came to Florida this winter. One thing Lew and I had in common, we both attended Webster Elementary School, Amos Hiatt Junior High School and East High School.

Dear Clarkson sons and family,
My deepest sympathy. There are no words, however heartfelt that seem adequate. So I turn to a favorite poet for help....This world is not conclusion; a sequel lies beyond. Invisible like music, yet positive as sound......Emily Dickinson.........
Much love and peace to you, Karla Hansen
