Lee V. Alderman
November 22, 2013
Lee Vine Alderman was born September 14, 1933 in Grimes, Iowa, the son of Theodore and Esther (Lane) Alderman. Lee was larger than life. He was a lifetime Eastsider and was well known for his sense of humor; he could always make you laugh. Lee went to school through DMACC and in Minnesota and was employed as a refrigeration mechanic. He worked for Iowa Pack for 18 years and retired from SuperValu in 1995.
Lee loved spending time with his family and was so proud of his grandchildren. He liked entertaining and spending time with friends. Family vacations made many wonderful memories.
Lee had many hobbies, one of which was a passion for fishing. He enjoyed taking fishing trips to Canada and also hunting in Wyoming. Aviation was another of his passions and he held his solo pilots’ license. He also liked playing cards and was always helping people to repair their cars.
Lee was strong and physically fit. He played baseball and softball and coached little league. Lee was a 50 year member of the East Gate Lodge. He loved the Iowa State Fair and loved to sing.
Lee is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jean; four children, Deb Fitch (John), Tim Alderman (Tami), Lee Alderman, Jr. (Carol) and DaLonna Housley (Rick); nine grandchildren; four great-granddaughters; and siblings, Glen and Dale.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Joy.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 29, 2013 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines with burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 27, 2013, at the funeral home.
Lee parted this life having no unsaid words, no pending apologies, no regrets, and no unshared feelings.

It doesn't take long to have to get to know someone. When I met Lee I saw a man of respect and a family man. I enjoyed the times I sat at the same table with him and talked. Thank you Lee for opening your home and family to me.

I don't know how to express how much of a positive influence Big Lee and Mamma-Jean were on me as a child and as an adult. Hanging out in the garage and watching Lee work his Mechanical-Magic on everything no matter the complexity, inspired me to follow that path of Magicianry. Little did he realize I was becoming his little apprentice from journeyman Motorcycle mechanic thru to Heavy-industrial to Engine generator Specialist\Co-Generation as a career. He and Jean always encouraged the return to school and praised accomplishments. Lee was blessed with a soft\firm mannerism, untold skills and the best wife and children you could ever know. I was blessed to have been watched over by them being a close neighbor kid and how Lee's little automotive condenser prank changed my life. "Until we meet again old-Buddy", Love Jim

I'm George and Shirley Pike's oldest. I have so many fond memories of playing at your house while Mom and Dad visited with you and Jean. I often think of both you and Jean when visiting my mom at Laurel Hill. You will be missed.

Uncle Lee, even though we have been 800 miles away. There wasnt a day i didnt think of you or pray for you and Aunt Jean. I remember going up to see yall every 2 weeks in summer. You always had the neighbors come over so they could hear our Texas talk. I knew we'd get to eat that good pizza too. Thank you for being my uncle. LOVE YOU
