~ peaceful rest, Ms Zike/Mrs Main. we were taught music history and music theory, although her most valuable lessons are respect and appreciation for the art of sound.

I also have wonderful memories from music class at Kirkwood in Des Moines in the 50s. She expected nothing but the best from us, from learning all about the music that would be performed before visiting the DM Symphony to being on our best behavior. I still cringe when audiences clap at a concert when they're not supposed to. You all have my deepest sympathy for your loss.

I have such fond memories of your mom as our elementary music teacher at Kirkwood School in Des Moines. This was in the mid 50's. All the kids loved her (as Miss Zike and Mrs. Main) and she really challenged us. We had to learn all about classical music before we could go to hear the D.M. Symphony on a class field trip. And she taught us all how to play the auto harp! I still remember many of the songs she taught us. She was a gem - such a sweet person. My sincere sympathy.

About 20 years ago Phyllis accompanied our Love Notes gospel group. She was a very good pianist and played with such a nice touch. The group practiced at her home on Tuesday nights. It was a fun time. Peace be with the family.

So sorry for your loss. Your Mom taught my daughter, Yvette, at Ruby Van Meter School. She was a wonderful teacher and a wonderful person. She will be missed!
