Ruth Short

Ruth Ellen Short went to be with her Lord Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at Valley View Village in Des Moines. She was 91. Funeral services will be Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Grandview Church of Christ, 2736 Hubbell Ave, Des Moines, with visitation beginning one hour prior. All are invited to stay for a luncheon immediately following the service. Burial to follow at Lowman Cemetery, Runnells.

Ruth was born on a farm northwest of Runnells, Iowa on October 15, 1922 to Henry and Hannah (Patterson) Thomas. She attended grade school at Powers, later graduating from Runnells High School in 1940, lettering in basketball and earning several awards for perfect attendance. Her life was blessed growing up on the farm with three brothers, Robert, Fred and Carrol. An older brother, Benjamin, died in infancy. In 1947, Ruth married Clare Short, moved to Des Moines and began a 38 year career at Employers Mutual. Retiring in 1985 as a clerical supervisor, Ruth moved back to the farm to live with her brother Fred. Three years later, Fred passed away and Ruth sold the family farm, returning to Des Moines. She has been a resident of Valley View Village for 21 years, making many friends in her time there.

Ruth loved God with her whole heart and lived her life in view of eternity. She was baptized at the age of 12 at the Camp Center Church of Christ, where she was a member until moving to Des Moines in 1988. Since that time, Ruth has been a dedicated member of the Grandview Church of Christ.

Preceding her in death are her parents and four brothers. She is survived by cousins, nieces and nephews. Ruth was loved and will be missed by her extended family, church family and many friends.
