Stephen F. Kimberley
November 19, 2013
Steve Kimberley, 72, was born August 1, 1941, in Collins, the son of Frank and Mary Kimberley. He passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2013, at Adel Acres.
Steve loved to fish in the river as a kid and play baseball. When Steve was a young man, his family built the fishing camp in Canada and Steve found his calling. He loved the camp and was a natural at guiding. It wasn’t long until he had figured out all the hot spots. Steve enjoyed passing his passion for fishing on to any that would listen. He was proud to have taught many, including his kids to fish and to respect the fishery at Eagle Lake. In 1984, Steve bought the camp from his parents and began to put his own stamp on the business. He remodeled cabins, built a floating dock and changed the color from red to log siding. In the winter, Steve loved to ride snowmobiles and watch Dillon and Kristine play basketball. During the spring he especially loved to watch Kristine play softball.
Steve is survived by his son, Sean (Jody); grandchildren, Kristine and Dillon Kimberley; other loving relatives and many special friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Todd Kimberley.
Visitation will be held 5 to 7 p.m., with a 7 p.m. service on Friday, November 22, 2013, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines.

I'm so sorry I missed Steve's passing. Our family first visited the resort in 1968 and returned almost every year for just about 30 years, sometimes twice a year. Many of our family's fondest memories are of our weeks on the West Arm, My dad's annual May trip with a group of guys were legendary and highly anticipated, I think Steve looked forward to the guys coming up as much as they did. Steve always spent time at our cabin and usually came over for dinner one night. He also would get into our one day big fish contest, he'd always take me with him which was something to remember. It brings back smiles, ....one time we ran out of gas two portage lakes from the lodge one evening. We made it back eventually, to once again win the contest as Steve's boat did every year. Some of the best days of my life were spent on the West Arm and Steve was a part of that. My condolences.

Some of my fondest childhood memories are from times spent with the Kimberley family on the west arm of Eagle Lake. Steve was simply awesome. On behalf of my parents (Boyd & Sandra Gordon) and brother John, I offer my condolences.
