Richard Grylls
November 17, 2013
Richard Grylls, 60, passed away Sunday, November 17, 2013 at UnityPoint Health Des Moines Methodist. Richard was born January 20, 1953 in Des Moines to Kenneth and Vera (Roach) Grylls. He was a life long resident of the Des Moines area and was employed by the Des Moines School System for 33 years as a bus driver.
Richard was a kind and loving husband, father and grandfather who lived by the motto “less is more.” He enjoyed being outdoors and working with his hands, camping, fishing and wood carving. Selfless and giving, he volunteered for the Special Olympics. He will be greatly missed.
Richard is survived by his loving family: his wife Julie, daughter Amy (Chris) Estell, son Gregory (Emily) Grylls, step-daughter Sarah (Daniel) Glann, and step-son Nathan Meyer. He will also be missed by his sister Jane (Dave) Pschirrer, father- and mother-in-law Garry and Janet Schultz, grandchildren Isaac, Aaron, Anna, Landon, Logan, Liam, Luke, Kathryn, Samantha, Danielle and Christian, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at Plymouth Congregational Church in the Greenwood Room, 4126 Ingersoll Ave, Des Moines.
It is suggested that memorial contributions be directed to Special Olympics Iowa in honor of Richard.

We, the Pastor and members of Greater Life Missionary Baptist Church, wish to express our sympathy in the loss, on this side of Bro. Richard Grylls.
We look to the hope given to us in scripture at Revelation 21:4 "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away."
May the Lord comfort you in this hour of sorrow.
Yours in Christ,
