Mary T. Pazzi

Mary Theresa Pazzi was born November 17, 1922, in Des Moines, to Ralph and Theresa (DeFino) Pellegrino. She passed away November 15, 2013, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston.
Mary was a lifelong Des Moines resident. She was an active volunteer for 23 years with various organizations. In 1998, Governor Terry Branstad presented Mary with Iowa’s Outstanding Volunteer Award – Champion Partner In Aging, the highest award given to a volunteer in the State of Iowa. In her spare time she loved to play cards, play bingo, and read. Mary was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and the Altar & Rosary Society.
Mary is survived by her children, Frank (Donna) Pazzi, Sharon Marvelli, and Louis (Diana) Pazzi; five grandchildren, Alisha (Bart) Hutson, Steven Pazzi, Laura Paterno, Tony Paterno, Jr., and Frank Pazzi, Jr.; three great-grandchildren, Sebastian and Jacey Hutson, and Ashtyn Pazzi; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and beloved friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Louis Pazzi, Jr.; brothers, Frank, Pat, and Pete “Buck” Pellegrino; and her sisters, Julia Romano, Barbara Boggs, Fannie Vivone, Minnie Vivone, and Gloria Neal.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday, November 21, 2013, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street, with a Vigil Service at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, November 22, 2013, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 15 Indianola Avenue, followed by burial at Glendale Cemetery.

Donna and Frank, I am sorry for the loss of your loved one. Losing a precious parent is hard and sad .

We will miss Mary a lot. She was always fun to be around when we would get together with Louie and DeeDee to play cards. One day we will all be reunited with her in heaven. May she rest in peace. We can celebrate the long good life she had.
