Richard Hugh Reynolds, Sr.

Richard Reynolds, 81, passed away on Thursday, November 14, 2013 with his children and extended family by his side. Services will be held at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines with the funeral on Saturday, November 23 at 2:00 p.m. and visitation on Friday, November 22 from 5 to 8 p.m. Burial of his cremated remains will be at Iowa Veterans Cemetery.

Rich was born on July 30, 1932 to Creta and Deibert Reynolds in Des Moines, IA. He graduated from Des Moines East High School in 1950. He joined the Army in 1952 and served in Germany. After being honorably discharged in 1954 he married his high school sweetheart, Sandy Rhoades in February 1955.

Rich retired from R.R. Donnelly/Meredith Printing in 1994 after working 44 years. He and Sandy spent the next 19 years together traveling, camping and meeting new friends. Rich loved his winters in Arizona and was a big NASCAR fan. He was a true Chicago Bears fan and still supported his team no matter their record.

Rich was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sandy of 58 years. He is survived by his daughters, Cass DiMaggio, Marsh Reynolds; son, Richard H. Reynolds, Jr. and his wife, Shelly; grandson, Richard “R.J.” Hugh Reynolds, III; granddaughter, Riley Reynolds; his sisters, Charlene Holderread, and Shirley (Gary) Metsker; his “adopted” daughter, Julie Proffitt; and his many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
