Anna Mae Mutchler
November 11, 2013
Anna passed away on November 11, 2013, surrounded by her family, and was gently led home by her son, Mike.
Anna Mae (Lint) Mutchler was born in Van Meter, IA, to Jessie (Grimm) and Arthur Lint on September 30, 1930. She was a graduate of North High School and attended classes at Des Moines School of Nursing, and Drake University. She worked as a Caregiver in the field of Nursing for 30 years.
Anna enjoyed working with children in various character-building programs, such as being a Scout Master, Sunday School Teacher, and involved with the Foster Grandchildren Program through the Des Moines Public School System.
She was a very positive person and enjoyed staying active. If there was something that captured the essence of Anna, it was that there was never a stranger, stray animal or person in need that Anna turned away. If you came knocking on her back door, she was there with a smile and a bologna sandwich…with American cheese, if you were lucky. Anna was widowed at age 35 and raised her six children as a single Mom. Her biggest joy has always been her family.
Anna is survived by her children, Rae (Eddie) Hergenrader, Randi (Richard) Hutchinson, Debra (Mark Johnson) Mutchler, Dan (Syliva) Mutchler, and Marcy (Hans) Schacht; her sister, Dorothy Innis; 19 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and Beth Wilson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore I. Mutchler, Jr.; her parents; sister, Ardith Moyer; and recently passed, son, Michael Mutchler.
Services will be held at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street in Des Moines, with visitation on Wednesday, November 13, from 5 to 8 p.m., and the service on Thursday, November 14 at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at Glendale Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Salvation Army or Iowa Hospice.

To Anna Mae's children and grandchildren, I would have liked to talked to each one of you, but there was no time. Anna Mae and I were more like sisters than friends, and we argued as such. We'd known each other for almost 65 years, since 1949. I am proud of all of Anna Mae's kids and how you've all turned out. I really liked the eulogy Hutch gave and want to thank him for that, it meant a lot to me. Anna Mae, the searching is over, I will surely miss you.

I'm so upset, as I just now saw this and missed her service. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. It seems like we have lost all the moms we grew up with. Take care of yourselves, knowing that your mom was loved and admired.

I have yet to find a person with such vigor and a desire to learn and care for others. Raising so many children on her own shows the drive she embodied in her day-to-day life, her sense of selflessness, and her ability to find strangers as a friend yet met. Her view was all-encompassing, accepting of others, and thoughtful in the way she dealt with each individual. Our hearts go out to all of her children and family at this time of sorrow and deep sense of loss.

Such sadness in my heart for all of you. Anna Mae always made me feel as if I were one of the family in my teen age years & I enjoyed my overnights in her home. It's hard to lose someone who is so loved & I'll keep her in my heart & think of her often as I have over the past 40 years. Love you Anna Mae

Anna was such a good person. I have only known her for a short time but she always treated me as family. I feel lucky that I got to know her through her daughter Deb. I know she will be greatly missed by all her family and friends. May God comfort you always and remember she and Mike are your Guardian Angels!!!!

Be at peace my beautiful aunt. You brought much joy to the ones you loved. As kids we never wanted for food because you were always there. You strengthened my faith in God and it gives us peace to know that you are with him now
