Virginia L. Rigor, 86, died Friday, November 17, 2006 in Des Moines, Iowa. Born on July 2, 1920, she was the fifth child of Blanche and Charles Hanning of Augusta. Virginia graduated from Augusta High School and worked at Quincy’s Blessing Hospital until she married Merle L. Rigor on November 1, 1941. Together they reared their only daughter, Kay.
Virginia and Merle farmed for thirty years. Most of those years were spent on a farm in Chili, five miles west of Bowen. In 1973, they moved to Camp Point. Virginia lived across from Bailey Park until 2002 when she moved to Des Moines, Iowa. Merle died in 1975.
Virginia attended the Camp Point Christian Church, played bridge with the Pla-Mor Club, volunteered in Bailey Park and worked many hours each day in her yard.
In addition to her daughter, survivors include Kay’s husband (Tom McCollum); three grandchildren, Malinda (Tony Varallo) McCollum, TR Mc Collum, Melissa (Chris Campbell) McCollum; and one great grandson, Gus Varallo. All who knew Virginia will miss her warm smile and kind words.
The funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 21, 2006 at the Lummis- Hamilton Funeral Home, Camp Point. Burial will be in the Clayton Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
