Gerene Mae Norton

Gerene Mae Norton, 84, died peacefully Saturday, November 2, 2013 at Kavanagh House on 56th. Gerene was born October 17, 1929 to Dennis and Madalon (Posson) Shaw in Des Moines.

She loved being in the kitchen cooking and baking. Gerene also enjoyed sewing, gardening, fishing and playing Bridge. She was a long time member of St. Ambrose Cathedral.

Gerene is survived by her children, Carol (Rick) Knowlton and Jim (Cyndie) Norton Sr.; 9 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; brothers, Walter and Wilbur; sisters, Barbara, Ethel, Denise and Leta; as well as numerous relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Arthur J. Norton after 49 years of marriage; brothers, Ronald and Garold.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at St. Ambrose Cathedral, 607 High Street, Des Moines with burial to follow at Glendale Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday with a wake service at 5 p.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway, West Des Moines.

Memorial Contributions may be made to Kavanagh House on 56th.
