Service Details

Lola Irene Morris Hull, 89, died Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at Parkridge Specialty Care Center in Pleasant Hill. A service will be held Monday, November 4, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Union Park Methodist Church, 2305 E 12th Street in Des Moines with visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Pleasant Hill.

Lola was born on August 29, 1924 at home in Scotland County, Missouri to Phil and Lela Morris. As young child, she moved with her parents to Cantril, and enjoyed growing up on the family farm. She was married to Charles Hull on April 5, 1943. The couple was blessed with the birth of their daughter, Judy. She and her family moved to Des Moines in the summer of 1958. Lola began working for The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship. She was a loyal state employee for 30 years. Lola was a member of Union Park Methodist Church.

Lola lived her life as a strong and independent woman. She loved to tend her roses and watch them grow on the backyard trellis. Lola enjoyed spending time with her daughter Judy and her grandsons Tony and Brian and their families. Lola showed her love and devotion to the boys while growing up baking them cookies and later putting them into college care packages. She also was an avid fan at their sporting events. Dinner with the family always had to include her famous macaroni and cheese and fried chicken, much to the delight of her great-grandchildren. She especially enjoyed eating grandson Brian’s barbeque while spending time with family. The entire family enjoyed a trip to Disney World where many happy memories were made. Her good natured attitude shown in her quick wit as she loved to banter with her son-in-law and grandson Tony.

Lola is survived by her daughter Judy Carico of Pleasant Hill; grandsons Tony (Anita) Carico and Brian (Dawn) Carico, of Johnston: great-granddaughters Kaylea, Kortni, and Kate Carico; nephews Ben (Barb) Morris of Keosauqua and Paul (Penny) Morris of Keota. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Charles Morris of Cantril, Iowa, son-in-law Paul Carico, Jr., great-grandson Cameron Carico.
