Michael Joesph Bennett

Michael Joesph Bennett, 69, passed away peacefully at his home Friday, October 25, 2013.

Michael was born October 2, 1944 in Columbia, South Carolina. He worked in real estate, but his true calling was sobriety and working in and for the AA community. He also loved golf, cribbage, pitch and gin rummy and played every chance he got. Michael was sober for the final 33 years of his life and was grateful to remain sober by the grace of God, Alcoholics Anonymous, his family, and the AA community.

Michael is survived by his son, Jonathan Bennett (Elizabeth), daughter, Lisa Crews (Jim Drury), brothers, Butch Byrkett (Carol) and Marvin C. Bennett, III (Kat), sisters, Joan White (John) and Rosie Southwick (James), eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren with one on the way.

He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Joesph Bennett, Jr., grandsons, Jonathan and Dakota, sister, Jean, and his parents.

A memorial service will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at Evergreen Church of Christ, 2215 Evergreen Ave in Des Moines.
