Service Details
A celebration of Gary’s life will be held graveside at Avon Cemetery in Des Moines, Iowa at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 26, 2013. Family will greet visitors from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday prior to the service at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines.
Gary was born on October 22, 1955, to Don and Gladys Knox. He died Tuesday, October 22, 2013, at Broadlawns Hospital, after an extensive battle with cancer. He was 58 years old.
Gary is survived by his father, Don; mother, Gladys; brothers, Donnie (Sheryl) and Bryan (Sally); sister, Susan; and his furry comrade, “Twiggy.” He is also survived by his nieces, Trisha (Jeff) Steenhoek and Heather (Jason) Johnson; nephews, Bradley and Scott Knox; great-nieces and nephews, Dominick, Blake, Alec, Aiden, Kaleb and Klaire; other extended family and many good friends.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Tom and Sarah Knox and his maternal grandparents, Thomas and Faye Dye.

Gary was an unforgetable, wonderful person. What a gift he was to know. There will always be a knoxie in my heart. I am thankful that while he was in so much pain that it didnt last longer and he can be at peace. My dad will be happy to see him in heaven as will many that knew him that are already there.

I'm so very sorry for your loss. I was very happy that I got to say good-bye to Knoxie last Sunday at the Birthday/ Benefit we had for him. He will be missed by many, but his smile, and laughter will live on in our hearts forever. R.I.P. Knoxie. Love Always, Sheri

Although I didn't know your brother, I'm sure growing up with you as a big brother he had to have some of the same traits you have. It is very hard letting go of someone so close to you. Here are a few bible verses to keep in mind as you and your family go through grieving for your brother.

Gary was a friend to many people from all walks of life. He lived life on his own terms, like it or not. I have a certain amount of respect for that fact. His laugh and care free spirit and love of life will be missed by many. I think I can speak for his friends when I say, Gary, Rest In Peace, finally. We love you and miss you.
