Oliver Raymond Noftsger was born December 22, 1925 in Lamoni, Iowa to Henry and Ruby (George) Noftsger. He lived in Lamoni until 1959, after which he moved to the Des Moines area. Oliver proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy as a Seabee during World War II. He was a member of Union Park Methodist Church and VFW.

Oliver loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening, especially growing roses and tomatoes. Oliver liked country music and volunteered his time with the Hawkeye Jamboree and the Kavanagh House Hospice in Des Moines. Oliver loved playing board games, particularly cards.

Oliver passed away on Monday, October 21, 2013 at the Solon Care Center in Solon, Iowa. He was 87 years old.

Left to cherish his memory are his son, Raymond (Tina Forchetti) Noftsger of Deerfield, Illinois; daughter, Cathy (John) Witt of Iowa City, Iowa; grandsons, David and Marc Noftsger and Eric, Jason and Tyler Witt; loving great-grandchildren; sister, Peggy (Melvin) Gray of Lamoni, Iowa; aunt, Helen (Lyle) Gray of Lamoni, Iowa; and his loving companion, Marge Lehman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his spouse, Donella Marie Noftsger and two brothers, Donald Franklin and Gene Henry Noftsger.

Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, October 26, 2013 at Rose Hill Cemetery in Lamoni, Iowa. There will be a visitation from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, October 25 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines, Iowa.
