Kathleen A. Curnes

Kathleen Curnes, 70, died on October 19, 2013. A life-long resident of Des Moines, she was born on December 8, 1942, the daughter of Gerold Dankel and Kathleen Price Dankel.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Wayne Curnes; son, Gerold Curnes (Debbie) of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania; daughters Sharrie Steele (Mark) and Carrie Curnes, both of the Des Moines area; step children Terry Curnes (Mary) of Omaha, Nebraska; and Michele Nowak (Kevin) of Des Moines. The lights of her life were her five grandchildren; Cory Doss (Tracey), Justin Curnes, Terra Palmquist (Ryan), Tyler Curnes, Ethan Curnes; and her three great grandchildren, Vivienne and Gabriella Doss, and Breckin Palmquist. She loved her nephews, Sam and Benjamin Grotewold, like grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother, Bill Dankel (Dianna) of St Bonifacious, Minnesota, and a sister, Susan Grotewold (Scott), of Ames Iowa.

She loved traveling, being outdoors, working with her flowers, quilting, and being with her many friends and family members.

Kathleen will be celebrated at a service at Hamilton's Southtown, 5400 SW 9th Street, on Thursday, October 24, at 10:00 a.m. Visitation will precede the service beginning at 9:00.
