Charles Parker

Charles Albert Parker, 79, died October 19, 2013 of liver cancer.

Charles was the son of Ira and Lolita Parker born June 3, 1934 in Pottawattamie County in Western Iowa. He was the 6th of ten children. He graduated from Walnut High School in 1951. He enlisted in the US Army and served as a radio operator.

Charles married Joan Myers August 14, 1960. They had four children, Janice, Janine, Rich and Jennifer. He worked as an exceptional salesman for over 30 years.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joan; son, Rich (Maria) Parker; daughters, Janice and Janine Parker and Jennifer (Mike) Olson; eleven grandchildren, Wendy (Chad) Cline, Jeremy and Nathan Parker, Dustin and Jessica Hamell, Sophia, Cassandra, Wyatt and Cody Parker, Jessica and Aaron Olson; as well as five great-grandchildren, Chase, Ayla, Aaliyah, Hayden and Leo; his brothers, Gary, Gayle and Lynn; and his sisters, Darline Kuehl and Pat Bedow. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ira and Lolita Parker; brothers, Jack and Gene Parker; and his sisters, Betty Gladson and Beverly Billups.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th St. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Wounded Warrior Project and the Carlisle Rescue Unit.
